Why do you need to have a will?

Dying without a will could affect not just your assets, but mostly your loved ones. It is a myth that you have all the time in the world and you can write your will only when you reach an old age.

You don’t know what tomorrow brings and if you want to protect your loved ones it is better to write your will in time.

Why do I need a will?

A will is an essential part of any estate plan. Having a will is important because it allows you to have control over what happens to your assets, dependents after your death and when they should receive them.

What happens if you die without a will?

If you die without a will, your assets will be distributed according to your state's laws of intestacy. This means that your assets will be distributed to your nearest relatives, regardless of your relationship with them or whether or not you would have wanted them to inherit your assets.

6 reasons why you should have a will

There are many reasons why you should have a will and write it in time. We will name just 6 today, but if you want to know more about why it is important to write a will you can reach us anytime at info@funero.co.uk.

  1. Reduce stress and time. After the death of a loved one, the amount of bureaucracy and arrangements to be made can be overwhelming and time consuming. Writing a will helps with that problem.

  1. Avoid arguments. Your family and other beneficiaries will have your wishes clearly laid out. This way there is no room for unnecessary disputes between the members of your family.

  1. You can make your funeral requests clear. A will is not only for your assets and legal requests, but also where you can specify the type of funeral you would like. For example if you want your body to be cremated or buried, if you would like a traditional funeral or just a simple ceremony, etc.

  1. Choose who will take care of your minor children. No one wants to think about the  possibility of passing away earlier than expected. That is why it is important if you have minor children to think about this unwanted possibility and name a guardian you know would be the best parental figure in their life, and would take care of them as you have.

  1. Taking care of your pets. Our pets become more than just a simple pet, they become a part of our family, and it is normal to know they will be protected and taken care of in case of your death. That is why you can specify in your will who you want to take care of your pets after your passing.

  1. Leaving donations to a charity you support. This can have two benefits: supporting a good cause that you may be interested in and potentially reducing the amount of inheritance tax paid by your family.
